Grants - 2017 Awards
In 2017, the Terry Lee Wells Foundation awarded $902,429 in grants to 18 organizations in northern Nevada. The grant amounts ranged from $429 to $500,000. These grant recipients and purposes of the grants are:
Community Chest, Inc.: to support completion of Phase Two of the Storey County Youth and Community Resource Center.
Eddy House: for operational support of Eddy House's drop-in resource center, which provides intakes and assessments as well as basic needs and community resources for homeless and at-risk youth ages 12-24.
Good Shepherd's Clothes Closet: for operating support that will assist the organization in providing free clothing to low income families and individuals as well as the homeless in the Reno-Sparks area.
Great Basin Outdoor School: for scholarships for Children in Transition to attend single-day and overnight experiential based field trips.
Nevada Diabetes Association: to fund the Terry Lee Wells Family Camp for children with diabetes and their families and the Terry Lee Wells Family Support Group for families dealing with a diabetic child.
Nevada Health Centers: for expansion of the Ronald McDonald Dental Care Mobile program to provide oral healthcare services for homeless children in remote rural areas of northeastern Nevada.
Nevada Women's Fund: to award a Terry Lee Wells Endowed Scholarship to a woman who is a resident of a rural area in northern Nevada, with preference given to a re-entry student.
Nevada Youth Empowerment Project: for support of the Community Living Program that provides at risk and homeless older female youth the necessary skills training, resources and accountability for self-sufficient and responsible living.
Northern Nevada HOPES: for the Housed and Healthy program, which provides case management, support services, short-term stabilization housing, and permanent housing placement to homeless individuals in Washoe County.
Pets of the Homeless: for operational support of programs that provide pet food, emergency veterinary care and wellness clinics for pets whose guardian is homeless, and free sleeping crates to homeless shelters.
Planned Parenthood Mar Monte: to provide funds for comprehensive, medically accurate, age-appropriate sex education to middle and high school students and college-age young adults who are at-risk or homeless.
Ridge House: for support of the Housing for Homeless Youth program, which provides shelter, supportive services, behavioral health care, and education, training and job placement services to homeless youth ages 18-24.
Safe Embrace: to expand the Safe Embrace Shelter Kids' Club, which provides on-site care and after-school educational activities for homeless children impacted by domestic violence.
Saint Francis of Assisi Food Pantry: for on-going pantry operation costs that will provide healthy non-perishable and perishable food at no cost to low-income and homeless individuals and families in the Reno area.
Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum: for re-design and enhancements to the Nevada Land, Nevada Stories gallery.
The Children's Cabinet: for operational support of the Center for Aspiring Youth, which provides transitional housing and case management, counseling and support services for youth under the age of 18.
TheatreWorks of Northern Nevada: for expansion of Outreach Programming to provide drama classes for youth residing at Kid's Kottage and the Volunteers of America Family Shelter, and for children and youth at the Boys and Girls Club locations.
Volunteers of America: to fund five homeless families who are receiving emergency shelter at the VOA Family Shelter to participate in the Rapid Re-Housing Program, which will provide intensive case management, housing assistance and subsidy, employment assistance, budget training, and follow-up home visits for those families.
