Grants - 2015 Awards

In 2015, the Terry Lee Wells Foundation awarded $711,977 in grants to 40 organizations in northern Nevada. The grant amounts ranged from $440 to $250,000. These grant recipients and purposes of the grants are: 

Artown: to support the Monday Night Family Series during Artown’s 20th anniversary festival in July 2015. 

Arts for All Nevada: for the Arts for All Kids program, which provides quality hands-on arts workshops for students with special needs in Washoe County and Carson City School District classrooms.

Boys & Girls Club of Elko: for support of the No Child Turned Away program in Elko to provide access to programs of the Boys & Girls Club of Elko that will enable all young people in Elko to reach their potential.

Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada: to support the Kids to Seniors Korner Immunization and Outreach Program.

Carson City Symphony Association: to support the Strings in the Schools after-school music program in Carson City schools.

Casa de Vida: for the Pathways to Success program that provides housing, social service assistance, parenting education, and behavioral healthcare to pregnant and parenting teens.

Central Lyon Youth Connections: to support the “Take a Seat” project to raise money for youth programs in Lyon County.

Child Assault Prevention (CAP) Project: for Elementary Abuse Prevention Workshops for 2nd, 4th and 6th grade students in Washoe, Storey, and Lyon Counties.

Churchill Arts Council: to support the 2015-16 core programs and provide complimentary tickets to underserved populations in Fallon and Churchill County.

Committee to Aid Abused Women: for support of the transitional housing expansion project that provides safe and sustainable housing for domestic violence survivors and their families.

Community Chest, Inc.: to support Phase Two of the Storey County Youth and Community Resource Center.

Food Bank of Northern Nevada: for areas of greatest need in providing food and services for low-income children and their families in northern Nevada.

Friends in Service Helping (F.I.S.H.) of Elko: to purchase camp essentials for the new homeless camp in Elko.

House Calls: for operating support for programs that provide seniors with services that meet their safety, security, and emotional needs.

Immunize Nevada: to support the School-Located Vaccination Clinics for at-risk kids.

Nevada Diabetes Association: to fund the Terry Lee Wells Family Camp for children with diabetes and their families and to provide scholarships for children with diabetes to attend Camp Buck.

Nevada Health Centers: for operational support of the NVHC Mammovan Program and the Ronald McDonald Dental Care Mobile.

Nevada Women’s Fund: to award a Terry Lee Wells Endowed Scholarship to a woman who is a resident of a rural area in northern Nevada, with preference given to a re-entry student.

Nevada Youth Empowerment Project: for support of the Community Living Program that will prepare older youth for self-sufficient living and bring a quality of life to their home.

Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation: for the Family Assistance Fund, which provides financial assistance to families of children diagnosed with cancer, for expenses incurred during the child’s treatment and follow-up care.

Northern Nevada HOPES: to purchase and install a Diabetes HgA1C POC Testing Machine to screen and treat people living with diabetes.

Northern Nevada RAVE Family Foundation: to support respite care sessions for families caring for young children with special needs, foster children and their siblings.

Note-Able Music Therapy Services: to provide individual music therapy services to low-income children and youth with disabilities.

Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts: to subsidize artist fees for the Pioneer Center Youth Programs.

Planned Parenthood Mar Monte: to provide funds for 150 low-income, under-served women in northern Nevada to participate in the Hormonal Contraception Program.

Reno Philharmonic Association: for the RPA Kids program that provides after-school violin instruction to underprivileged elementary school students.

Sierra Nevada Journeys: to provide an outdoor science and art learning experience for 30 children with physical and developmental disabilities.

Sky Tavern: to support the 2016 Junior Ski Program at Sky Tavern and enable participation for families who would otherwise be excluded from snow sports.

Solace Tree: to support the Good Grief Program that provides free grief counseling services to children in elementary and middle schools in the Washoe County School District.

Special Recreation Services, Inc.: to support Camp Lotsafun and other recreational programs for people with disabilities.

Step 2, Inc.: to provide direct client services for women in the Healthy Steps program who are overcoming addiction, poverty, domestic abuse and trauma.

Tahoe Youth & Family Services: for operational costs of substance abuse counseling services in Douglas County.

Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum: challenge grant to raise funds for the new gallery Inside Out: An Anatomy Experience.

The Children’s Cabinet: to support the Transitional Living Center for Youth that provides safe housing for runaway and homeless youth and youth transitioning out of foster care.

The Holland Project: for the Holland Project Capital Campaign to purchase the Holland Project building at 140 Vesta Street in Reno.

TheatreWorks of Northern Nevada: to support outreach drama classes for youth residing at Kid’s Kottage and the Volunteers of America Family Shelter.

University of Nevada, Reno: to provide scholarships for students with demonstrated financial need to attend the NevadaFIT Academic Boot Camps.

Urban Roots: to support the Garden Classroom program at underserved schools in Washoe County.

Washoe K-12 Education Foundation: to support Parent University classes in the Washoe County School District during the 2015-16 school year.

Washoe Legal Services: for support of the Child Advocacy Unit to ensure legal representation for children in the custody of the Washoe County Department of Social Services.
